Holy heck there’s a lot of news coming out of Comic Con. It’s lucky Luke Miksa has your back with a roundup of the best stuff.
Ready Player One
Based on the wildly popular novel by Ernest Cline, Ready Player One is set in a dystopian future where humanity now escapes the now-harsh reality by spending every waking moment in a virtual reality called Oasis; an adventure world filled to the brim with 80’s and 90’s nostalgia. Directed by Steven Spielberg — himself responsible a lot of that nostalgia first-hand — Ready Player One is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of 2018. Between the Iron Giant and the DeLorean time machine, how many Easter eggs can you spot in this trailer alone?
Thor: Ragnarok
If you had any reservations at all about the direction Marvel’s Thor universe was headed, this trailer should rectify that. With an inspired choice of director in Taika Waititi, the neon-soaked, synth-laden trailer for Thor: Ragnarok appears to be the absolute business! October can’t arrive soon enough! Let’s have some fun!
The Defenders
After two season’s of Daredevil, and a season each of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist finally culminates in the ultimate team-up series: The Defenders. Here’s hoping Marvel’s street-level New York heroes can come back from the mediocre offering that was Iron Fist. It stars Sigourney Weaver as the antagonist, so it likely shall. We only have to wait until August!
Westworld Season 2
These violent delights have violent ends in the trailer for the second season of HBO’s hit sci-fi western series Westworld. This first-look trailer doesn’t reveal much, despite confirming the return of many key characters. But the sight of a once placid Dolores mowing down people on horseback can’t get you excited, then I’ve got nothing else for you. As it’s still deep in production, we’ll have to wait well into 2018 to see where season two takes us (more epic cover songs, please).
Stranger Things Season 2
Oh, man. What a trailer! Stranger Things was a smash mainstream hit and cultural touchstone when it landed last year, and the second season looks to up the ante in every possible manner. The combination Stephen King/John Carpenter aesthetic follows our favourite characters as the fallout from season one follows them. The standout of the trailer is clearly the Michael Jackson Thriller remix, which captures the tone perfectly and is SO COOL. Vincent Price just BELONGS in this universe. This is the best trailer of the bunch! Set your calendar to October 27th, and prepare to binge!
Justice League
Justice League is here too. This is a very long trailer at around four-minutes, and potentially reveals too much of the plot. It’s here if you want to see the fallout of Batman v Superman (apparently Superman is a hero now. Who knew!?), but one thing’s for certain; it’ll be cool as all heck to finally see the Justice League on the big screen. Hopefully it’s more Wonder Woman and less Batman v Superman. Justice League will be here in November.
